I've only just read the above comments about the course we delivered in December. It's really heart warming to know it went down so well. It was a very good experience for me as a trainer, and I learned a lot from doing it, particularly about the kind of sexual exploitation young women have to face on the streets of our cities. I just hadn't been aware of this before the session on personal testimony when people talked candidly about it. Before the training I'd been slightly worried that it being a women's project people might be a bit hostile to a male trainer, but they were really friendly and made it easy. I felt people had so much to offer in terms of their experience - it would be great if SUST could support some of the women to run their own training outside their own organisation. In reply to Frank I think this training could easily be done for other organisations, albeit tailored to where people are at with regard to their own training skills.

The current reform of the NHS being pushed through parliament by the Conservative led government (with vital support from their Liberal Democrat 'colleagues') despite widespread public, service user and professional opposition, will make the already present market ethos in the NHS ever more prominent, to the benefit of the few and the detriment of the many.

I can't quite follow everything you've written but I can certainly relate to what you say about the power of fear. I'm glad to hear you came through your experience and I hope you're still feeling well...

It's a real shame that you had this experience. Self Directed Support is supposed to be about making things fit better with individual needs rather than making people feel worse. Like a lot of things in the mental health world, the idea sounds good but the systems that are put in place to support the idea (supposedly) aren't up to the job.

Maybe you could ask people for a deposit of £10 if they fail to show up for a course and want to book on a later one.

I think you should stop giving out free places to everyone who books one and start asking why people want to come on the training before giving them a free place. It's a shame that people are booking on the courses and then not showing up - it devalues the training somehow,,,makes it seem worthless.

SUST Training: We are always looking into the possibilty of developing new courses and, as trainers, we'd like to hear your views on courses we could deliver.
Please let us have your ideas.
